Spider Vein Injections
- The treatment of spider veins of the lower extremities will require more than one series of injections with sessions at 2-4 week intervals.
- The injections are performed with you lying down and you may have some slight discomfort during the injection process.
- There have been reported rare cases of allergic reactions to the medicine. Do not hesitate to tell us if you feel faint or have any discomfort during your treatment.
- A dressing will be applied to the injection sites and you should leave this dressing on for 48 hours. After which, you may remove the dressings and place the compression garments back on for an additional 24 hours.
- You may feel some cramping in your legs for the first day or two after the injections.
- The veins will look worse before they look better. There will be some bruising at the injection sites which will decrease over approximately one month's time. In may cases, there may be some residual brownish pigmentation which gradually fades over a period of approximately one year.
- In rare cases, the skin overlying the vein can be injured resulting in a wound which on healing, will leave a scar.
- If you notice blue-black clots in the treated veins after the dressings are removed, please call our office.
- Follow-up visits will usually consist of monthly visits until the treatment plan is completed.
- Please DO NOT apply moisturizer or other creams to your legs on the day of your injections, either before or after the treatment.
- Walking is encouraged after the injections.
- Avoid prolonged sitting, standing and pounding-type of exercises after the injections.
- Please bring a pair of compression panty hose with you to each scheduled injection visit.
