Microdermabrasion Salt Lake City & Park City

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that uses aluminum oxide (AI2O3) or sodium chloride (NaCl) crystals to resurface the superficial layer of skin. The degree of exfoliation is determined by the amount of suction employed and the number of passes made over the surface of the skin. This is a safe and well-tolerated procedure that does not require local anesthesia or preoperative medication.

Dr. Saltz and his team recommend microdermabrasion before facial surgeries such as facelifts, brow lifts, or midface lifts. Ideally, a series of three to six microdermabrasion sessions is performed to enhance skin hydration, sebum production, and texture. The treatments are usually performed every two weeks.

Is microdermabrasion right for you?

Beyond being helpful prior to surgeries such as facelifts, microdermabrasion can also be an effective stand-alone procedure. Good candidates for microdermabrasion have at least one of these skin conditions:

  • Oily skin
  • Dilated pores
  • Thick skin
  • Mild, shallow acne scarring
  • Melasma
  • Solar lentigines

Those who are not good candidates for microdermabrasion have one or more of the following conditions or situations:

  • Severe rosacea
  • Telangiectasias
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Active acne
  • Skin cancer
  • Dermatitis
  • Sunburned skin
  • Take Accutane
  • Take oral blood thinners

Microdermabrasion treatments can leave the skin sensitive, red, dry, and peeling. These side effects should subside within five to seven days.
