Microdermabrasion That Bad Skin Away

You know when you use that pressure washer on your driveway, or a sandblaster is used to remove graffiti from a city building?

Well, that’s kind of the idea behind microdermabrasion, but instead of removing unwanted stains or paint, you’re removing the dull, lifeless external layer of your epidermis. Microdermabrasion exposes the glowing, fresh skin underneath.

Dr. Saltz recommends microdermabrasion as either a stand-alone procedure or as a preparation for facelifts, brow lifts, or midface lifts.

The skin conditions that microdermabrasion addresses

Microdermabrasion is effective when used for certain skin conditions:

  • Melasma
  • Oily skin
  • Solar lentigines
  • Dilated pores
  • Thick skin
  • Mild, shallow acne scarring

How microdermabrasion works

Microdermabrasion is non-invasive and non-surgical. It involves the use of aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals to exfoliate the skin surface. The crystals are sprayed onto the skin through a wand that also suctions back the crystals and any dead skin that has been removed. The degree of exfoliation is determined by the amount of suction used, along with the number of passes made over an area.

Initially, three to six microdermabrasion sessions are used to enhance skin hydration, sebum production, and texture. From there, once or twice monthly sessions are recommended. No anesthesia or numbing agents are necessary.
