Rejuvenating Your Face for a New Year
- Posted on: Dec 30 2020
In this month’s first blog, we lamented the year and how COVID has taken much of the fun out of it. We wondered if the need for social distancing and avoiding group events makes this the perfect month to plan for a facelift with Dr. Saltz. After all, our usual slate of holiday social events is sure to be severely curtailed.
In this blog, let’s get into the facelift some more. This could be the perfect time to plan for this procedure in the New Year with Dr. Saltz.
Who is a good candidate?
If you get right down to it, just about any of us living in Utah over the age of 45 could benefit from a facelift. Our outdoor lifestyles put a beating on our facial skin, aging it beyond our years. Plus, the lack of humidity isn’t kind, nor is the almost constant sun exposure.
These visible signs of aging respond well to facelift surgery:
- Deep nasolabial folds
- Mid-face sagging
- Fatty, loose areas below your cheekbones
- Deep creases under your eyes
- Banding, fatty tissue, and loose skin on your upper neck
What is a Modern Facelift with Dr. Saltz?
Traditional facelifts tended to focus only on the mid to lower face, but our faces age through our forehead, eyes, and down into our neck. Dr. Saltz’s Modern Facelift seeks to address all of these areas. This is an all-encompassing cosmetic surgery. Incisions begin under the chin for treatment of the neck, continue around the ears, and end at the temple area along the sideburn. The tissues are repositioned, and the muscles are tightened and lifted. The skin is then pulled back over the muscles and the excess skin is trimmed away, tightening the neck and facial skin.
The Modern Facelift includes treatment of the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS), the underlying support structures that have typically descended along with the outer tissues. This procedure corrects the expressions and movement of the face, or the up and down muscles, we use to frown and smile. Dr. Saltz utilizes fibrin glue to seal the deeper layers prior to closure, helping to minimize bruising and swelling and to expedite healing.
If patients don’t need the all-encompassing approach of the Modern Facelift, he may recommend and employ other more limited techniques to address specific areas. For instance, the mid-face lift targets the cheeks and areas under the eyes. Neck lifts target the neck, jowls, and lower face. The options are quite varied, and Dr. Saltz adapts his methods to your specific facial aging.
