In August’s first blog we gave you the basics of an exciting new treatment to reduce the appearance of cellulite on the buttocks called QWO®. This brand-new treatment was approved by the FDA in the midst of the COVID craziness, so it may not have made the splash that it would have in normal times.
So, why not spend the second of August’s toasty blogs getting into more detail about QWO® and how it’s going to go to battle with the cellulite on your backside.
What is QWO?
For a quick refresher, here’s what QWO® is and how it works.
QWO® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. QWO is made from collagenase clostridium histolyticum. When injected, this breaks down the fibrous bands that connect your skin to the muscle beneath and trap fat in between the bands. By breaking these connective bands, QWO® lessens the appearance of cellulite.
How is a QWO treatment session done at Spa Vitoria?
Dr. Saltz first marks the dimpled areas on your bottom that are to be injected. He then injects QWO® with a very small needle. Injections do not need to be made to great depth. Topical numbing cream is not necessary. Because there is much more fat and far fewer nerves in the buttocks, these injections are not painful. Patients have told us they hurt less than Botox® injections, which also don’t necessitate the use of topical anesthetic cream when being delivered.
QWO® sessions are completely non-invasive and take just 30 minutes or so.
How long after my QWO injections will I start to see results?
At Spa Vitoria, QWO® is delivered in three sessions; each session is spaced three weeks apart. About one week after your third session, at roughly 10 weeks from your first session, most patients see a visible improvement and smoothing of their treated cellulite locations. Results may vary between different patients.
What are the potential side effects with QWO treatments?
QWO® does have a risk of side effects. The most common side effects after QWO® injections include bruising, pain, areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, swelling, and warmth in the treated areas.
More serious side effects are possible. These include allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis. Bruising lessens with each subsequent treatment. In clinical trials, patients did not require any downtime and any residual bruising resolved in under 21 days.
At Saltz Plastic Surgery/Spa Vitoria, we’re excited to add QWO® to our treatments for cellulite, along with Cellfina®.
