It’s As If All of Romania Had a Cosmetic Procedure

Cosmetic procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, are so commonplace now that it’s hard to remember a time when “having something done” was a secret to be kept to oneself. How things have changed from those days in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

It’s always interesting when the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (which Dr. Saltz will become the president of in October of this year) releases the statistics from the prior year detailing the number of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Those statistics were recently released and here are some highlights.

How many procedures?

If you want to look at the sheer number of procedures in the 2015 ISAPS statistics, let’s use the country of Romania. What if you took the entire population of Romania and gave each person some sort of aesthetic procedure? Some would have a Botox session, others breast augmentation, others laser skin resurfacing. All in all you’d have over 21 million procedures, one for every person in the nation.

That’s how many surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures were performed worldwide in 2015, according to the ISAPS statistics.

And once again, as it has been every year since it was introduced in 2002, botulinum toxin (overwhelmingly Botox) injections were the most popular procedure of all.

Here are some of the statistics.

Over 9.6 million cosmetic surgeries were performed in 2015.
The top four surgeries:
