A brow lift is normally performed under local anesthetic, but if you prefer you can request general anesthetic. If Dr. Saltz is performing an endoscopic brow lift, he will make small incisions at the temples and along the scalp line. This will allow him to manipulate the tissues as needed with the visual aid of the endoscope. Obviously, an endoscopic brow lift is far less invasive than a coronal brow lift.

In a coronal brow life, a single incision is made along the hairline, spanning from ear to ear. The skin is then lifted, excess tissue is trimmed, and the skin is re-draped.

A descending brow line can push down on the upper eyelids, making them appear heavy and hooded. It is not uncommon for a person to mistake heavy eyelids for an actual eyelid problem. There are a few ways you can begin to identify if an eyelid lift or a brow lift would be right for you. One is to observe where your brow line sits on your forehead. They should lie right at or very near to the bony ridge over the eye. Another way to assess your eyelids and brows is to use fingers to gently raise your eyebrows to a position that looks natural. If your upper eyelids continue to look heavy and baggy, or you cannot see your eyelid crease, you may need an eyelid lift. In some cases, the best results are achieved by combining the brow lift with upper blepharoplasty so both the eyelids and the brows are lifted. 

After your surgery, your forehead will be taped and bandaged. A thin tube is also inserted to drain any excess fluid. You may have temporary fixation screws to hold the elevated brow in place.

There will be swelling and bruising and it could spread down into your cheeks and eye area. This should be gone in about a week to 10 days. For the first two days after your surgery, you’ll need to keep your head elevated to reduce the swelling. Ice packs will also help with swelling.

A coronal brow lift, due to the length of the incision, will require a more involved recovery. There will be more pain, so you will receive prescription pain medication. You may also experience more itching, particularly across the incision area. This can last for a few months. Numbness or tingling can also be present, but will ease over time.

Most patients can return to work within 10 days, but must avoid vigorous exercise and heavy lifting for three or four weeks.

The surgeon uses the upper orbital rim as a guide for youthful brow placement, also keeping in mind the variations that exist between masculine and feminine facial anatomy. For example, women's brows tend to sit at the upper orbital rim. Men's brows, on the other hand, may sit just below that mark. The procedure may also subtly enhance the curve of the eyebrows.
