It is important to ask your surgeon about their medical training and certification. You should only have your procedure performed by a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Be sure to ask the surgeon:
- Are you certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?
- How many years of surgical training have you had?
- Did you specifically train in plastic surgery?
- Do you have hospital privileges to perform facelifts? If so, where?
- (For office procedures) Is your office’s surgical suite accredited by a national or state agency?
Experience
Although plastic surgeons must meet the same requirements to earn their board certification, they often pursue specialties. Regarding your facelift, it is best to work with a surgeon with extensive experience performing the procedure and supportive treatments, such as a neck lift and brow lift.
