Exosomes are made by mesenchymal stem cells. One of their roles is to communicate with other cells. As a result of the signals sent by exosomes, the receiving cells alter their behavior according to those messages. By isolating exosomes, researchers have established a way to deliver potent cellular stimulation without using stem cells themselves. When used clinically, exosomes come from donated human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells. These stem cells are carefully purified and processed to extract the exosomes that are used in various treatments, including hair restoration.

Exosomes are powerhouse extracellular materials. They aren't stem cells exactly; they are the building blocks on which stem cells thrive! In research studies, it's been found that stem cells can help stimulate better hair growth patterns. Because exosomes are tiny cellular products containing both RNA and mRNA, they are effective at initiating protein manufacturing in receiving cells. They signal several different biological functions, including cellular growth and blood coagulation. The functions that are stimulated by exosomes are unique to the cell of origin.

Exosomes work through several different signalers/growth factors. These include:

  • FGF. A signaling growth factor that fosters biological development.
  • MIP-1. A type of Macrophage Inflammatory Protein influences inflammation and thus helps support the regrowth of new hair.
  • SCF. Stem cell factor encourages the growth of stem cells and melanocytes, which contribute to hair pigmentation.
  • TGFß3. This gene variant influences cell division and also cell death. Introducing this substance to areas of hair loss can stimulate the cell division that continues the hair growth cycle.

When you undergo exosome therapy for hair loss, the treatment begins working right away. Beneath the surface of your scalp, the various growth factors and signalers are restoring the foundations of a robust hair growth cycle. That said, the effects of these invigorated actions may take two to three months to appear. The stimulating effects of your exosome treatments can continue for up to a year. Around the six-month mark, you can expect to notice satisfying new hair growth.

PRP hair restoration comes with other benefits aside from stimulating hair growth. The first notable benefit is how it increases blood supply to the hair follicles. Blood is what helps nourish and provide nutrients to the hair follicles. It is also responsible for eliminating waste so the follicle remains healthy.

Although PRP hair restoration treatment can help promote natural hair growth, it is not a permanent solution. Patients can have continuous hair growth for up to two years after having four to six treatments. Since the treatment is not permanent, you will need to have touch-up appointments once a year to maintain hair growth.

PRP hair restoration is a safe and effective procedure as it uses your own blood to promote natural hair growth. This means you will not have to worry about contracting a disease. However, PRP hair restoration is an injection-based treatment, so there is a risk of infection and injury to nerves and blood vessels.

There are contraindications to PRP hair restoration that can disqualify you from being a suitable candidate. If you are anemic, which is a condition where a person does not have enough red blood cells, you may not be a viable candidate. Anyone with a cardiovascular issue or requiring blood-thinning medication can be disqualified from PRP hair restoration.

Before the procedure begins, the doctor will apply a topical numbing cream to the target areas before proceeding with the injection. After the procedure is complete, it is normal to feel mild pain and discomfort, but it disappears quickly. If the pain continues to persist or worsens, contact the doctor immediately.
