Microneedling is a very popular procedure for improving various aspects of facial skin. Creating thousands of microscopic punctures into the facial skin with the microneedling handpiece triggers a wound response in the skin that breaks down texture problems and builds new supplies of collagen to firm and thicken the skin.
But Dr. Saltz liked the idea of adding pulsed wave and continuous wave radiofrequency energy to the process for even better skin improvement. So, we added Sylfirm X to our offices in Salt Lake and Park City.
What is Sylfirm X?
While traditional microneedling is great, adding radiofrequency energy to the process makes it better. That’s what Sylfirm X does. The handpiece delivers the pulsed wave and continuous wave RF energy directly into the dermis when the needles penetrate the epidermis down into the dermis, the skin’s second layer.
What skin issues does Sylfirm X improve?
- Skin laxity
- Vascular pigmentation problems
- Skin texture and tone
- Overall skin rejuvenation
How does Sylfirm X RF microneedling compare to regular microneedling?
In traditional microneedling, the microneedles penetrate the epidermis down into the dermis, and this triggers the wound-healing response sought after in so many aesthetic treatments. But Sylfirm X adds radiofrequency energy, and this makes the difference.
When the Sylfirm X microneedles penetrate the skin down into the dermis at the depth we’ve set (different areas of the face require different penetration depths), the system delivers the short pulses of radiofrequency energy directly into the dermis layer when the microneedles are at their maximum depth.
How does this improve the skin? When RF energy enters the dermis, it converts instantly into heat energy. That’s the key because when the body senses heat in the dermis it believes a wound has occurred and it responds with a wound-healing mechanism. This involves immediate remodeling of existing collagen in the area. This immediately tightens the skin, breaks down texture problems, and works to shrink large pores. But more importantly, new production of collagen is initiated to heal the perceived wounds. The reality is, however, that the microscopic punctures created by the microneedles heal in just a couple hours. Still, the skin now has increased collagen production for a period of weeks. This thickens the skin, increases firmness, and tightens the treatment areas.
