Give Your Skin the Laser Treatment

As laser technology has progressed so has their use in the aesthetic world. At Saltz Plastic Surgery we use lasers to resurface the skin to address a variety of skin flaws and conditions.

Who could benefit from a laser peel?

Also known as laser peels, laser vaporization, and laserbrasions, these procedures are excellent for both women and men seeking a non-invasive procedure to rejuvenate their skin.

These procedures are limited to the face because of the facial skin’s ability to heal as compared to the rest of the body. Here is a list of skin problems that laser peels are excellent for:

  • Acne scars
  • Chickenpox scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Liver spots
  • Yellow or gray skin tone
  • Warts
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose
  • Non-responsive skin after a facelift

How a laser peel is done

At Saltz, our first step is to evaluate your skin type. From there we discuss with you your goals and treatment options. In some cases, we may first recommend a series of topical skin treatments to prepare your skin for the laser peel.

There are two types of laser peels that we use: ablative and non-ablative.

Ablative laser peels target the skin’s outer layer, the epidermis. The laser’s light energy is converted to heat energy and it vaporizes very thin sections of the surface skin. By removing this damaged tissue, new skin grows in to replace it.

Ablative laser peels are similar to deep chemical peels. They are aggressive treatments that will require recovery time. Treated areas will become dry and crust over. Then they will peel off. Your skin will feel raw and will require topical ointment for a period of time, possibly as long as one month. With ablative laser peels, results can be quite dramatic.

Non-ablative laser resurfacing doesn’t target the outer layer of the skin, instead penetrating beneath into the dermis, the skin’s second layer. In the dermis, the heat energy stimulates the body to produce new collagen, the skin’s protein responsible for the skin’s underlying support structure.

These non-ablative procedures don’t require recovery time since the surface layer is untouched. But because they are not as aggressive, usually a series of treatment sessions is needed to get the results you seek.
