What is CoolSculpting?
Everyone has pockets of fat on their body that don’t respond to exercise or changes in diet. CoolSculpting is a revolutionary non-surgical contouring treatment that freezes this stubborn fat, which the body then eliminates naturally. Amazingly, CoolSculpting does this without the use of needles or surgery, and without any downtime. The procedure is safe, FDA-approved, and truly effective.
Am I a candidate for CoolSculpting?
Some pockets of fat are as stubborn as a two-year old. No matter how much you exercise, no matter what changes you make to your diet, the fat just won’t go away. You’re not overweight, but these fat pockets drive you nuts. If this sounds like you (and it probably applies to 95% of the population), then you should give CoolSculpting a shot. This revolutionary procedure can work for both men and women who are in good general health, near their ideal weight, and who want a slimmer or more toned appearance.
How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting is a unique process that destroys fats cells beneath the skin with targeted freezing. It doesn’t use lasers, sonic waves, or surgery to remove the fat cells. Unlike those procedures, CoolSculpting does not destroy or damage surrounding tissue; it targets and kills only fat cells.
In a CoolSculpting session, the device is attached to the area to be targeted where it applies light suction to the skin and underlying tissue. Once activated, it delivers controlled cooling into the tissue below. But this is the unique aspect of CoolSculpting — the temperature involved only freezes fat cells, not surrounding non-fat cells. Once the fat cells are crystallized they then gradually die. Your body, as with any non-essential by-product, then eliminates the dead fat cells naturally. With those fat cells gone, the remaining fat cells condense into a thinner fat layer.
A CoolSculpting session with Dr. Saltz and his team takes from one to three hours. The procedure is pain-free and patients can read a book or even browse the web on their laptops while receiving the treatment. There is no recovery time; patients can return to normal activities immediately following their session.
CoolSculpting complements body contouring surgeries such as the “Mommy Makeover” by targeting excess fat on your love handles, thighs, back, or any area on the body.
As your body continues to flush away the fat, you will actually notice your results improving over time. Most patients realize the final results of CoolSculpting after about four months, and according to manufacturer data, nine out of 10 people had an undeniable reduction of fat after just one treatment.
What’s the difference between CoolSculpting and liposuction?
CoolSculpting and liposuction have the same target — to remove or lessen stubborn pockets of fat that don’t respond to diet or exercise. But that’s where the two procedures diverge.
Liposuction uses a cannula to suction out fat from these stubborn pockets. But to gain access, surgical incisions are made. Liposuction permanently removes the fat, but can sometimes create dents or lumpy areas where the fat has been removed. After the procedure some recovery time is required.
CoolSculpting doesn’t require any incisions. And its results tend to be smoother because the fat cells that have been frozen are across an area, not simply where the cannula has suctioned (in liposuction) them away. There is no recovery time.
