What is Juvéderm Vollure®?
Wrinkles and aging are inexorably linked in the minds of most people. But it’s really volume loss that shows your age. It’s a fact of life because our collagen, the protein responsible for the skin’s underlying structure and support, levels decline by one additional percentage point every year after we celebrate our 20th birthday. Our faces really show this volume loss: cheeks sink and flatten, the area around our mouth loosens, and our lips thin and form vertical wrinkles.
Juvéderm® has long been one of the world’s most popular fillers, known for returning the volume to nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Over the years, new Juvéderm® fillers have been added to specifically target certain areas of the face. Juvéderm Vollure® XC is the latest addition. Vollure® XC was created to correct moderate to deep creases and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. Dr. Saltz has added Vollure® to his filler offerings.
What is Juvéderm Vollure® XC?
Juvéderm Vollure® XC is the newest addition to the Juvéderm® family of dermal fillers. It was developed as an extension of the original Juvéderm® product, Juvéderm® XC. Vollure® was approved by the FDA in March 2017.
Where is this wrinkle filler used?
Vollure® XC sounds like it duplicates the original Juvederm® XC, which adds volume to nasolabial folds, parentheses lines, and marionette lines. But Vollure® is specifically formulated for moderate to deep creases and wrinkles in these areas. It adds more volume to address these deeper depressions.
How is Vollure® different from the other fillers in the Juvéderm® line?
Juvéderm®, which along with Restylane, are the world’s two most popular dermal fillers, was the first to keep expanding the product line with products intended for very specific areas. For instance, Juvederm® Ultra XC was developed to add volume to the lips, plumping and filling them out. Then Juvéderm Volbella® XC was created to add subtle volume to the lips for less showy results. Juvéderm Vollure® XC is specifically intended to treat moderate to deep lines and creases around the nose and mouth. These demands more volume than, say, lip lines. Juvéderm Vollure® XC uses Vycross crosslinking, which is also used in Volbella® and Voluma®. This technology minimizes any swelling when Vollure® is injected.
How long will the wrinkle treatment results last?
This new Juvederm® addition is the longest-lasting hyaluronic acid filler on the market — it returns volume for up to 18 months. The next longest-lasting hyaluronic acid fillers provide results for about one year.
Can I combine Vollure® with other fillers?
Dr. Saltz likes the fact that each Juvéderm® filler has a specific target area on the face. To that end, different fillers can be combined in one treatment session. For instance, you could return the volume to your sunken cheeks with Juvederm Voluma® XC, and in the same appointment fill out your nasolabial folds with Vollure®. All Juvéderm® fillers are hyaluronic acid-based, so reactions are very rare. We prefer to combine Juvéderm® products when possible, as we know they are formulated for specific goals and work well in combination.
Will I have downtime after my Vollure® session?
There isn’t any downtime with any Juvéderm® products. You can return to work or your normal activities immediately after your session. You do need to refrain from rubbing the injection sites for 24 hours.
Are there any side effects?
Allergic reactions are rare because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body. The typical side effects are redness, slight swelling, tenderness, and bruising at the injection sites. This resolves quickly. There can also be some firmness at the injection sites initially. This can even form some lumps, but these resolve in most cases in 7-10 days.
