Lymphatic Drainage Massage in Salt Lake & Park City

What is Lymphatic Massage?

One of our highly recommended pre- and post-surgery treatments is lymphatic massage. Lymphatic massage is a technique developed in Germany for treatment of lymphedema, an accumulation of fluid in the soft tissues. This occurs most often after cosmetic surgeries, such as liposuction, abdominoplasty, rhinoplasty, and facelifts. Lymphedema also occurs as a result of radiation therapy, trauma, and cancer of any lymph nodes. In lymphatic massage, the massage therapist gently rubs, strokes, taps, or pushes the skin in directions that follow the structure of the lymphatic system so that the accumulated lymph fluid can drain through the proper channels. Lymph vessels are found throughout the body, most of them — about 70 percent — lie just below the skin. These fragile vessels pick up fluids between the cell spaces when gentle pressure is applied from increased fluid build-up, muscle contractions, or the pressure of a therapist’s hands. By using very light pressure in rhythmic, circular strokes, our massage therapists can help to stimulate the lymph system to work more efficiently and move the lymph fluids back to the heart.

What Are the Benefits of Lymphatic Massage Before and After Surgery?

By freeing vessel pathways, lymphatic massage can help retrain the lymph system to work better for more long-term health benefits.

Benefits include:

  • Removes stagnant fluid from tissues, which increases blood flow
  • Enables lymph flow, which allows nutrients to reach the tissues to restore immune function and improve vitality
  • Reduces scar tissue buildup and bruising
  • Speeds the healing process during recovery
  • Reduces swelling and inflammation
  • Helps reduce stress and tension

How Often Should A Client Receive Treatment?

Dr. Saltz recommends treatment 1- 2 times a week for two weeks before surgery and 2-3 times a week for at least six weeks after surgery. Beyond immediate surgical recovery, periodic lymphatic massages are beneficial for other conditions: athletes/sports injuries; fibromyalga and chronic fatigue sufferers; and anyone feeling tired or lacking energy, recovering from illness, or seeking an invigorated look.

We also have wonderful Master Aestheticians who are trained in a very specific form of lymphatic massage. When you have a facial, your Master Aesthetician will gently massage your face to help improve lymph flow. When lymph fluid is moving freely in the face, you‘ll have clearer, healthier skin, without a buildup of toxins and fluids.

Saltz Spa Vitória Integrative Massage

What Is Integrative Massage Therapy?

Integrative massage therapy combines a number of different modalities including massage, somatic therapy, and bodywork techniques. Other therapy techniques that may be incorporated are stress management, touch therapy, reflective listening, movement re-patterning, and energy work.

The Client Takes An Active Role In the Therapy

You work closely with our licensed massage therapists. Touch plays an important role as it is vital for the therapist and the client to form a strong bond and connection throughout the sessions. This connection leads to a release and flow of life energies, allowing the body’s natural healing processes to take over. Our massage therapists strive to make you feel comfortable and safe in the treatment environment, allowing an open experience and enabling the best results.

What Are the Benefits Of Integrative Massage Therapy?

The idea behind integrative massage therapy is that the type of massage needs to fit the person and the individual conditions needing to be addressed. By using multiple techniques for each individual problem of the body, they can be targeted and addressed with a unique approach, leading to optimal recovery and overall wellness.

Integrative massage helps the recipient live life to the fullest — physically, mentally, and spiritually. Integrative massage can help anyone achieve a healthier, more holistic approach to your body.

It is also can be beneficial for clients suffering from:

  • Migraines
  • Lower pack pain
  • Chronic pain

How Often Should A Client Receive Integrative Massage?

Most integrative massage sessions are unstructured. During your first session you will meet with our massage therapist and discuss your needs and the best techniques to address them. Together, you’ll decide how many sessions you’ll require. Our massage therapist will usually recommend an initial number of sessions (between four and six), which will allow her to learn more about your body and its problem areas, and then determine the best therapeutic techniques for achieving your treatment goals.

Other Massage Therapies

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage requires an understanding of the layers of the body, and the ability to work with tissue in these layers to relax, lengthen, and release holding patterns.

Deep tissue massage releases myofascial (connective tissue) restrictions in the body, and breaks up restrictive scar tissue. It can improve posture, increase flexibility, relieve chronic tension, and optimize the natural harmony of the entire body and mind.

Deep tissue massage is also said to restore length and flexibility to the fascia (the fibrous tissue that surrounds the muscles and organs) by normalizing the tissue and improving the strength and overall health of the entire fascial system (connective tissues throughout the body). In deep tissue massage, the strokes are slower and more pressure is applied in order to warm the muscle tissue and reach the deeper muscle layers. The primary goal places more emphasis on altering structure and muscle restrictions.

Hot Stone Therapy

Stones (often basalt stones) are heated to about 120-150 degrees and are placed on the body to direct heat deep into the muscles, which can produce a sedative effect on the nervous system. The stones are quite warm against the skin but never to the point of discomfort or potential skin damage. The stones range in size and weight, depending on the areas where they will be placed. Stones also rest in the therapist’s palms while the massage is performed. Hot stone massage helps relieve muscle and tissue pain, improve circulation, rid the body of toxins, and provide stress relief through relaxation. Hot stone therapy really helps soften and relax the muscles and dilate blood vessels so that a deeper, more thorough massage can be given, which in turn increases the benefits compared with a regular massage.

Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient healing art based on the idea that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that correspond to every part, organ, and gland in the body. Stimulating nerve endings in these extremities can have an effect on the body’s overall nervous system, which promotes healing.
