Cellfina™ Procedure

Dr. Saltz and you begin by identifying the cellulite areas you would like to target. You’ll stand and Dr. Saltz will use a marker to identify your cellulite dimples. Next, your skin in that area is treated with topical anesthetic. The Cellfina™ handpiece is then placed on the target area. The system uses a suction stabilizer to pull the skin taut and stretch the cellulite-causing connective bands. The Cellfina™ handpiece then inserts a tiny needle to break those connective bands. These are broken in a fanning motion. Once the bands are released the skin bounces back upwards, as it is no longer pulled down in the various spots by the bands.

Cellulite is a misunderstood, unfortunate phenomenon. Most people attribute women’s higher percentage of body fat compared with men as the reason behind cellulite, but that’s not true. The development of cellulite really comes down to anatomy, namely the bands that connect the skin and muscle. Men have thicker bands and more of them. Plus, their bands form a crisscross pattern. This keeps the fat in place, but it doesn’t make that fat pucker.

Women, on the other hand, have vertical connective bands. This arrangement traps fat in pockets. At the spots of the connective bands, the skin is pulled down while fat pushes up around it. This creates the dimpling on the thighs and buttocks commonly associated with cellulite.

Nine out of 10 women have cellulite. You may have heard various claims from creams and other products that are supposed to improve cellulite, but those do not work because they don’t address the connective bands. Cellfina™ breaks those bands.

If you have cellulite, you’re a perfect candidate for Cellfina™.

Cellfina™ can be used on any area of the body where connective bands have created dimpling. This mainly occurs on the thighs and buttocks.

Cellfina™ is a great cellulite treatment that delivers exciting results for our patients at Saltz Plastic Surgery. The treatments break the bands, but your skin needs to settle down a bit, so your results are not immediate. Results will show themselves in as little as three days, as the skin calms down. You can expect a significant improvement in the dimpling appearance of your cellulite. Once the connective bands have been cut, the skin bounces back upwards, as it is no longer pulled down in the various spots. To receive FDA clearance, the makers of Cellfina™ had to provide results over a two-year span. These are the patient satisfaction numbers:

  • Patient satisfaction at three months is 85%
  • Patient satisfaction is 94% at one year
  • Patient satisfaction is 96% at two years

Cellfina’s results just keep getting better!

A Cellfina™ treatment with Dr. Saltz takes about one hour. During this time, on average, 20 to 30 pinky nail to thumbnail-size dimples can be treated.

You will have some tenderness across the treatment areas after your Cellfina™ treatment. This is more soreness than acute pain. You won’t need to take any time off work, but you may want to take a day just to lay low. But that isn’t by any means a requirement.

There is no incision made with Cellfina™ treatments. The Cellfina™ handpiece is placed atop the targeted cellulite area. The system uses a suction stabilizer to pull the skin taut and stretch the cellulite-causing connective bands. The Cellfina™ handpiece then inserts a tiny needle to break those connective bands. Once the bands are released the skin bounces back upwards, as it is no longer pulled down in the various spots by the bands.

Your results are not immediate, as the tissue needs to settle. Results will show themselves in as little as three days, as the skin calms down. After that, your results last for years. They may last permanently, but this procedure has not been in use long enough to have long-term results. It’s unknown whether the connective bands that are cut will re-form or not. Regardless, Cellfina™ has nearly 100 percent satisfaction rates a full two years after treatment.

Because Cellfina™ physically breaks your connective bands, you will have some soreness and tenderness on your treatment areas afterward. This isn’t acute pain and you don’t have to limit your activities, but most people lay low for up to a day afterward. This includes working out, but that is up to the patient. There really isn’t any “recovery,” which is another great thing about Cellfina™.

As of now, the FDA clearance for this procedure is three years. Over this period, the results attained with Cellfina™ have not shown to reverse. The duration of your results could be longer. They could be permanent, as mentioned above.

Each Cellfina™ treatment runs about one hour, and during this amount of time Dr. Saltz is able to break the connective bands of about 25 dimples. If you want to expand the dimples addressed, another session could do that. Once the bands in one area are cut, however, there isn’t any reason to go back to those areas.

Cellfina™ cuts the connective bands that pull down the skin to create the signature dimpling that is the bane of virtually every woman. Weight change, whether up or down, won’t change the areas where the bands were cut. After all, the dimpling of cellulite isn’t as much a factor of weight as it is a factor of the aggressiveness of a woman’s connective bands.

Cellfina™ has been cleared by the FDA and has proven to be safe and effective. It is the only minimally invasive cellulite treatment procedure that breaks the connective bands that create cellulite. For these procedures at Saltz Plastic Surgery, we apply a topical anesthetic. Patients have some soreness, tenderness, and some minor bruising across the treatment sites. Any pain is easily manageable with over-the-counter pain medication, and this passes in just a day or two. Cellfina™ is very low risk, but highly satisfying.

The cost of your Cellfina™ session depends upon the amount of cellulite you seek to address. Once we see the area or areas you seek to treat, we can give you a precise estimate of the cost of your treatment.
