QWO™
Treat Cellulite Dimples
Most women will have cellulite in their lifetime – about 9 out of 10 women, in fact.
That means your tough workouts and healthy eating habits are fantastic for your fitness and overall wellness—but won't do much to reduce your cellulite.
If you really want to reduce cellulite, you need to understand what's behind it.
There are three things that work together cause those signature dimples.
- SKIN: Over time, skin thins
- FAT: Fat cells enlarge and push against the skin
- FIBROUS BRANDS: The fibrous bands under the skin thicken and cause tension and the signature dimpling on your butt

How Does Qwo™ Work?
It’s not fully understood how QWO works in moderate to severe cellulite. The enzymes in QWO—called collagenases—are believed to target a structural cause under the skin. It’s thought that QWO works in 3 ways: releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the growth of new collagen.
Who is a candidate for QWO treatment?
As mentioned above, cellulite is an almost universal bane of virtually all women, so odds are these could be good treatments for you.
After examining your cellulite, Dr. Saltz will ascertain if he believes QWO is right for you. To gain FDA approval, Endo Aesthetics (the makers of QWO) had to prove that QWO showed a two-point improvement in cellulite severity. QWO was tested in clinical trials with women of all ethnicities and skin tones. In most cases, if you have moderate to severe cellulite on your buttocks, odds are you’d be a good candidate for these exciting new treatments.
Why do I have cellulite?
Many women believe cellulite is a fat problem that can be eliminated through diet and exercise. They kill themselves at the gym, but their cellulite remains. Truth is, you can lessen the appearance of cellulite somewhat by decreasing the fat cells under your skin, but you can’t get rid of it completely no matter how slim you become.
That’s because fat isn’t the problem; the structural makeup of women’s skin is the cause. Women have connective tissue bands under their skin that are like vertical bars, trapping pockets of fat between them. The fat trapped by these tight bands pushes upward against the skin, creating lumps on the surface, next to depressions where the connective tissue is separating the fat beneath. It’s the telltale orange peel look of cellulite. And it only gets worse as we age, and our skin thins.
This is why skinny people can have cellulite, while heavy people may not. Women wonder why men don’t deal with this issue. Less than 10 percent of men have cellulite because, unlike the vertical connective tissue under women’s skin, men’s connective tissue is in an X pattern. For women, genetics plays a big role — if your mom had cellulite, you have cellulite. Hormones, aging, and weight also play a part.
What is a QWO session like?
QWO is administered in a series of three treatment sessions, separated by 21 days between each session.
Dr. Saltz first marks the dimpled areas on your bottom that are to be injected. He then injects QWO with a very small needle. Injections do not need to be made to great depth. Topical numbing cream is not necessary. Because the buttocks area has more fat and fewer nerves, these injections are not painful. Patients have told us they hurt less than Botox® injections, which also don’t necessitate the use of topical anesthetic cream when being delivered.
QWO sessions are completely non-invasive and take just 10-20 minutes or so.
Will I have recovery after my QWO injections?
You will have some soreness across the treated areas afterwards, but it is manageable with over-the-counter pain medication, so you won’t need to make any plans for recovery. After the first of your three sessions, you will likely have some bruising at the injection sites. This usually decreases with the subsequent two sessions.
What are the potential side effects with QWO treatments?
QWO does have a risk of side effects. The most common side effects after QWO injections include bruising, pain, areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, swelling, and warmth in the treated areas.
More serious side effects are possible. These include allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis. Bruising lessens with each subsequent treatment. In clinical trials, patients did not require any downtime and any residual bruising resolved in under 21 days.
The FDA has cleared QWO for cellulite reduction, so its effectiveness and safety have been proven.
Is there preparation necessary for QWO injections?
These are easy-to-take, quick treatments at our two Spa Vitoria locations in Park City and Salt Lake City. There’s nothing you need to do to prepare for your sessions. You may have some slight bruising after your first session, but it won’t preclude you from getting back to work or your other normal activities.
How long can I expect my results to last?
QWO is made from collagenase clostridium histolyticum. It smooths dimpling on the buttocks from cellulite by releasing the septae, the collagen bands that tether the skin to the muscle. As fat is deposited between the skin and the muscle, the telltale dimples of cellulite form due to the septae tightening the skin to the muscle between the pockets of fat.
QWO loosens the septae chemically. These are thought to be permanent changes in the connective bands creating the dimpling, but QWO is a new product, so there are not any long-term studies to know if the septae tighten again or not. Initial data supports longevity of at least a few years for the improved appearance of the patient’s cellulite.
How long will my bruising last?
In the FDA clearance of QWO, bruising was shown to subside in under 21 days. That is a long time, but bruising isn’t necessarily widespread, and it seems to decrease with the second and third injection session. Bruising is likely, though. In the studies for FDA clearance, 84 percent of women had some bruising.
That makes it wise to have your QWO injections cover the winter months here in Utah. The total span of time for your three sessions will take almost two and a half months. That way you’ll be ready for the shorts and swimsuits of a toasty Utah summer.
