What is microdermabrasion?
You read that right; we use crystals on your facial skin to abrade the top layer of your skin. The concept is similar to a light sandblasting. That’s the idea behind microdermabrasion, but instead of removing unwanted stains or paint, you’re removing the dull, lifeless external layer of your epidermis. Microdermabrasion exposes the glowing, fresh skin underneath. We also recommend a series of microdermabrasion sessions before procedures such as facelifts, brow lifts, or midface lifts. Microdermabrasion enhances skin hydration, sebum production, and texture.
What skin problems does microdermabrasion help?
Beyond a prep for facial surgeries, microdermabrasion is also a stand-alone treatment that is effective when used for certain skin conditions:
- Solar lentigines
- Melasma
- Dilated pores
- Oily skin
- Thick skin
- Mild, shallow acne scarring
How microdermabrasion works
Microdermabrasion is very effective and very easy to take, with no downtime. It’s non-invasive and non-surgical. The crystals are sprayed onto the skin through a wand that also suctions back the crystals and any dead skin that has been removed. The degree of exfoliation is determined by the amount of suction used, along with the number of passes made over an area.
Anywhere from five to 12 microdermabrasion sessions are used to enhance skin hydration, sebum production, and texture. Appointments are spaced two to three weeks apart to allow the skin to recover. No anesthesia or numbing agents are necessary. Plus, you can return to work or your typical activities right after your session.
