Blame Mom for Those Squiggly Spider Veins

Not many things in your life can really be blamed on something your parents did. But those tiny red and blue squiggly lines on your legs and face? Those you can.

Yes, spider veins. Those squiggly little devils that multiply in coordination with the advancing years have a genetic tendency. So thank Mom.

Question is, what to do about them? Come to Saltz Plastic Surgery and we’ll take care of those pesky spider veins in an almost painless way. It’s called sclerotherapy.

What is sclerotherapy?

Spider Veins TreatmentTreating spider veins is really no big deal. It’s a heckuva lot easier than dealing with real spiders! Anyway, sclerotherapy is an outpatient procedure that is quick and mostly painless.

A sclerosion solution is injected into each vein selected for treatment. This solution is highly saline and irritates the lining of the vein, causing it to swell and the blood in it to clot. Once that happens, the vein turns into scar tissue and fades away with time. Usually it takes one injection for every inch of visible vein.

Spider veins on the legs usually require more than one injection session to go away. Repeat treatments are scheduled every two to four weeks.

Recovery

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical treatment that doesn’t really require a recovery period. We ask patients to wear compression stockings or hose for up to a week following their treatment, and walking is encouraged. You should also avoid prolonged sitting, standing, or pounding types of exercise.

So, if you’re tired of those squiggly purple and blue lines that are the gift that Mom keeps giving you, give us a call at either our Salt Lake or Park City offices. We’ll help you bid your spider veins a fond farewell!
